As Sweet as Heaven – Part Two
Destiny sat there, curled up in a ball and enjoying the wealth of affection that clearly emitted from the seeming glow in her skin and twinkle in her eyes. While walking back and forth from the kitchen table to the stove, Victor glanced over at her, giving her a wink and letting her know he was aware that she was watching him. And maybe that simple glance from him shouldn’t have meant the world to her. But little minds like her were affected by little things. Details made so much seem more grand and larger than life, like Victor’s care of her and how she hadn’t spent more than a few minutes away from a white hot attention she hadn’t felt in a long time.
She could smell the food and though the apple juice had helped her to wake up while satisfying her tummy for the past few minutes, it was time to eat. Thankfully, Victor somehow knew that she was done with hunger. He returned to the sink, opened the second drawer to the left of it, taking out a bib and a length of ribbon. The bib she understood, but the ribbon she didn’t quite know the purpose of yet. It didn’t really matter to her, though. Whatever it was for, she’d find out. Her Daddy was walking up to her and that was the most important thing at the moment.
And his approach gave her those same reactions – the fast heartbeat, the speechlessness. Sitting up, she unswaddled herself from inside the pink blanket. Handing him the partially drunken baby bottle of apple juice, she unexpectedly burped, covering her mouth as her face turned red. That wasn’t very lady-like, even if she was a little lady. But Victor’s adoration never faded from his smile or in the way he picked her up into his arms. She worked herself around to his side, resting her diapered bottom on his hip as she wrapped her legs around his waist.
“You ready for dinner, Princess?” he asked softly, slipping the pacifier back between her lips – a rather odd thing for him to do since she was about to eat.
She nodded yes and suddenly realized his purpose. She didn’t speak when she had that pacifier between her lips and seeing how easy it was becoming for her to follow along was the stuff that her littleness came from, she happily regressed yet again.
Destiny wasn’t very well endowed at all. In most situations in life, this made her self-conscious. But today, it aided her current enjoyment. Being naked but her diaper and sitting on his hip, she couldn’t have felt anymore little without being walked through the mall in a cami, a diaper and nothing else (a little fantasy of humiliation she might someday find the courage to admit to him).
Presently, however, her thoughts weren’t on fantasies of the mind, but rather, on realities of the moment. The high chair wasn’t set up for her arrival and that length of ribbon in his hand was killing this once again hungry kitten’s curiosity. Luckily, she wouldn’t have to wait very long as it seemed there was something else to happen that night. This was what Destiny believed, at least, for the rate at which Victor got to the point of dinner. There was something to come afterwards. But, once again, those were thoughts of the future, and if there was any one immutable truth about Day One she had learned it was that the memories she would keep she would find in the moment, not in the mere guesses of what was beyond the horizons.
Carrying her over to the counter, Victor pointed to her sippy cup, sitting there with more kool-aid in it. She scooped it up as he put her baby bottle in the sink. And then, he walked over to the kitchen table taking a seat and placing her on his lap. She wiggled a little, smiling brightly behind her pacifier at how Daddy was going to be her high chair for dinner. But what would they be eating this time?
She stared at the tea towel in front of her on the table. Underneath it was dinner. Setting her sippy cup on the table, she folded her hands and placed them on her lap, recognizing the challenge of patience before her. Victor certainly knew the non-regressing quirks she had and he didn’t ignore them, but rather addressed them with little tests, like not lifting up the tea towel until he said. He put another bib around her neck, this one was pink and had the word Baby stitched into the front of it with cursive yellow. And before he allowed her to lift the tea towel he pulled all her hair back into a ponytail, tying it up with that length of ribbon. Perhaps he had learned from lunch how far she could spread a mess across herself, if given the opportunity.
But this only drove her curiosity further. Would dinner consist of messy goodness like lunch or would it be a bit more clean-oriented? It was certainly greasy. That was for sure, but what was it?
Dig in, Baby,” he said sweetly, finishing the bow in her ponytail.
Without a moment’s hesitation, she took the pacifier from her mouth and set it on the table next to her plate. Then she lifted the tea towel to find chicken fingers and those crinkle cut steak fries she loved so much. The chicken fingers were sliced into long thin strips, making it easier to dunk in the three sauces in the middle of the plate which separated the food: ketchup, mustard and barbecue sauce – each in its own tiny little cup. Picking up the first piece of chicken, she dunked it halfway into the mustard and holding it up above her left shoulder. Victor leaned forward and took the piece of chicken from her fingertips.
Then Destiny picked up one of the crinkle cut steak fries, dipping it into the ketchup first and biting that piece off. As she munched away, she doubled dipped, dunking the steak fry into the mustard before chomping that bit of it off. Then she tripled dipped, dunking the remainder of it into the barbecue sauce before sticking the rest of it in her mouth and licking her fingertips.
Looking back from the corner of her eye to see how closely he was watching she picked up two slices of chicken and three steak fries, clenching them in her right hand and preparing them for the forbidden dunk.
“Princess?” Victor asked with playful warning in his tone.
But she couldn’t help herself. Grinning from ear to ear, she dunked the handful of food all the way into the ketchup, followed right away with the forbidden extra dunk right into the mustard and then following that with the forbidden extra extra dunk into the barbecue sauce.
“The shtuff that dreams are made of,” she said with laughter as she chomped down on the three sauce-covered handful of food.
“No doubt,” Victor said with laughter, looking down at the trail of mixed decadence in the middle of the plate. “And what did you dream about during your nap.”
“Nothing,” she said, lowering her chin and putting the rest of her handful of food in her mouth.
Something was wrong. There was something she didn’t want him to know. Victor’s sensors were now on high alert. Whereas, normally he wouldn’t press the issue or discussion with someone who didn’t want to talk about it, this was different. And one of the long-term lessons he had instilled in her, from the first phone call until this very moment, was to always speak of the troubles in her heart. He didn’t want her to ever be nervous to tell him what was wrong.
Coaxing her into this discussion required a Daddy’s patience and a Daddy’s touch.
“Why didn’t you dream of anything, Baby?” he said reaching around her, picking up a steak fry and dunking it into the small portion of mustard which hadn’t been tainted with ketchup.
“I didun noh wut to dweem abot,” she answered with a full mouth.
“You didn’t?” Victor asked with a Daddy Voice as he picked her up and spun her around to face him before straddling her thighs back down on his lap. “Baby, there are endless possibilities of things to dream about.”
He reached behind her and picked up the plate of food, holding it between them as they continued eating.
“You not only had a dream, but you followed your dream here, right?” he asked softly, as she stuffed more fries in her mouth while nodding. “Well, I think it’s time for a new dream then – one that will take what you have already dreamt & achieved and send it to the stars.”
“Lak wut?” she asked with a mouthful of food and irises full of innocent wonderment.
“I can’t tell you what your dreams are, Baby,” he said, handing her the plate while hosting her up off his lap to a seat on the edge of the table. “But Daddy will show how to find your next dream.”
“Okay,” she said with a smile as sweet as Heaven.
“Finish up dinner and I’ll go get what we need,” he said, standing up and walking towards the hallway.
“What we need for what?” she asked as he stopped at the kitchen entryway and turned back to her.
“What we will need for the trip?” he said with a smile before disappearing back the hallway to his bedroom.
Destiny leaned to the side and tried to peer back the hallway. Then she sat back up straight and looked down at her body. She was wearing nothing but her diaper. They were gonna take a trip? Tending to the finish of dinner, she hoped he was back there getting her something to wear. But even with clothing on, she knew the emotions would still be inside her and the feel of Day One had been very nurturing, very loving and very exposing of her heart’s wishes. The thought now of a trip out-n-about was one that lead her visions back to that heart-pounding mall scenario she always fantasized about.
She shuddered a bit at how that tingle in the right place had returned once more with a greater passion still. Perhaps before she started telling him of her fantasies, she would need to tell him that their dynamic appealed to more than just her little side. But for Day One, she was contented and happy with being innocent and going with her Daddy wherever he led – even out-n-about, in search of her new dream.
Victor re-appeared from the hallway, walking over to the baby zone and then back into the kitchen to her. In his hands were the cloth bag which he had placed a few things in and his long-sleeve green Rugby shirt – the one with the white collar and stripes.
“This trip will be sweet and will show you how endless possibilities can be,” he said gathering up the shirt as she set the empty plate on the table and lifted her hand up into the shirt.
As the Rugby shirt went down her arms and allowed her head to pop out of the collar, he slipped a finger inside the elastic edging of her diaper. This startled her at first but washed that littleness back over him quickly. Daddy was checking her diaper again and she loved when he did that – for several reasons. Picking up her pacifier from the table, he returned it to her lips before put the handles of the cloth bag over his left shoulder. Picking her up and helping her wiggle into her seat on his right hip, he walked towards the front door.
“You ready to go, Princess?” he asked taking the ribbon out of her ponytail and allowing her hair to return freely to her shoulders.
She could feel her heart pounding with fear and excitement as he reached for the doorknob. Nodding yes, she wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck before she placed the side of her face on his shoulder. Oh, how she loved and craved being carried by him.
————————————-
Destiny felt little pings of what seemed like electricity dancing across her skin. It was either that or more goose bumps of excitement. She ran her legs down her thighs, feeling those tummyflies fluttering their waltz inside her. It almost seemed like she had found her next dream already and was living it. But oh, was she having trouble finding a way to keep her heart rate down. It was almost too much to handle for her and for the first time in Day One, she felt rushed. She had the instinct to tell him that she was a little too overwhelmed, especially since she knew he would want her to tell him. But the only point in saying anything to him would be to get him to turn around. If Victor hadn’t already told her that this trip would help her find her next dream, she might’ve found the courage to speak up, but she didn’t.
Staying silent or not, she couldn’t help but find herself at a crossroads, of sorts. The road he was driving down led to her future with her – her next dream. The roadway behind them led back home to the present with him. One way held a reward of growth but required a risk to be taken. The other way held a reward of known safety, but required her to give up on the next dream. Being swooned by a mixture of excitement and fear of the unknown, she went back and forth in her mind as to what she should do. She was the kind of girl who couldn’t make up her mind on anything. And just as a game of hide-n-go-seek was fun while being a little stressful for her, so now she had to make a bittersweet decision.
She lowered her chin, looking at her naked legs and the diaper sticking out from the bottom hem of her Daddy’s Rugby shirt. And then she smiled behind her pacifier. The decision she made turned out to be a lot simpler to make than she had made it to be. Smirking to herself, she chalked up this bit of unnecessary stress to having an overactive mind which always had to fret before it could think clearly.
As Victor pulled into the Dairy Queen parking lot, she leaned back in her seat, glad already that she decided to trust him and to follow where he wanted to go. As he pulled up to the ordering screen in the drive-thru, she smiled brightly behind her pacifier. Now she knew what he meant when he said this trip would be sweet. But the question of the moment was: Did he remember what she said her favorite dessert was?
Facing towards him, as best she could, she waited to see if he could pull that rabbit out of his magic hat again.
“Welcome to Dairy Queen. Can I take your order?” a friendly-sounding girl’s voice spoke from the ordering board.
“Yeah, we’d like a double-fudge, double banana split sundae,” Victor said, leaning his head out the driver’s window.
Destiny folded her arms and put a fake scowl on her face. How could he possibly have remembered her saying that? It was no matter, really and as he pulled up to the drive-thru window to pay, Destiny’s mind became consumed once more in that delicate mixture of tingles and nerves within.
Victor handed the money to the girl at the window. She seemed as friendly as her voice, taking a moment to smile sweetly at Destiny before making change in the cash register. Destiny was being mighty brave; an accomplishment Victor had praised her for repeatedly in the short ten minute drive, but one that straightened her shoulders. And as she had learned, little minds weren’t just affected by little things, but also insecurities that sometimes would go away – only to return to the worst possible moments.
This is what made Victor such a catch. Not only was he a Daddy, but he knew when to say the right things to make her feel better. He didn’t always get it right, honestly. But the point remained that he first had to try before he got it wrong. Having made the effort and gotten it wrong counted for more brownie points then never having tried at all.
The girl in the window handed Victor the sundae and two spoons, wishing them a good night. She even wave bye-bye to Destiny before they pulled away.
Back on the road, Destiny thoughts remained in that drive-thru with that super friendly girl in the window, how nice she was, how little she made Destiny feel and how wonderful it felt to be shown kindness from a total stranger. Maybe it was the glow in Destiny’s face that gave away her happiness. Anyone who saw that would surely smile. Maybe it was the pacifier in Destiny’s mouth and the stuffed animal on her lap that gave away her littleness. Anyone who saw that would certainly adore.
Or maybe it was the fact that she was buckled into a car seat, sitting directly behind her daddy that gave away Destiny’s secret altogether. Whatever it was, she really liked how it had made her feel. She was first amazed when she saw the car seat, then excited when he buckled her into it and lastly, regressing when she was seen sitting in it by a girl who never batted an eyelash of judgment.
Pulling into Sullivan Park, Destiny’s tummyflies fluttered up as he drove past some evening joggers. There was bit of danger in being seen. What if they somehow ran into someone she knew or someone whom she would see again? The thought was too intense to dwell on. So she focused in on the coming banana split sundae. Victor parked in the middle of the parking lot at the center of the park, free from all the trees above. She could see the stars clearly as he slid back the moonroof and joined her in the backseat.
Victor took the pacifier from her lips and handed her the sundae. Cracking the plastic lid off the sundae, she dug her spoon into the sweet treat as he reached inside her collar and pulled out the bib he had left around her neck when he put the Rugby shirt on her. She smiled with surprise. That was clever idea he had and she honestly had forgotten she was wearing the bib.
Oh my goodness, she loved fudge and from one spoonful to the next, she gorged herself in her craving. Aside from her Daddy, fudge was the only thing on Earth that was as sweet as Heaven. And it didn’t take them long to gobble the sweetness down. Unfortunately, they still weren’t quick enough to get it all down before some of it melted – the evidence having landed on her bib. Wiping her mouth with the bib, he removed it from around her neck as their attention went up to the endless view of the stars in the early night sky.
It made sense why he parked in the middle of the lot now. No trees, no blocked view. And as she was about learn, the sky was a wonderful tool to use when searching for possibilities.
“BabyGirl, your dreams are what your heart seeks the most, but most people actually don’t know what that is. Do you know why?” Victor asked, beginning another lesson from Daddy.
She shook her head no. but understood well what he was getting at. She didn’t dream during her nap and simply accepted it afterwards, as if she wasn’t supposed to dream at all.
“Most people never take the time to look into their hearts to see what wishes are waiting for a chance to be fulfilled,” he continued as a shooting star suddenly appeared and traveled across the sky. “The question you need to ask yourself is: Have you found all your dreams?”
And with that, he flipped up the bottom the Rugby shirt and unfastened her diaper tapes. She tried sitting up and looking around to see if anyone was nearby, but the buckle on the car seat, restricted her. Grabbing at the buckle she tried to unfasten it, but stopped when he folded down the front of her diaper – showing that she had drenched herself. Staring at the inside of her wet diaper, disbelief that she didn’t know she was wet came across her eyes. On occasion, she would wet the bed, but that only sometimes happened right before her period began – a strange, but clear sign that her monthly friend would soon pay her another visit.
She snapped out of her trance, when her Daddy placed the pacifier back in her mouth. Easing her back to relax in the car seat, his eyes and mind-melting soft shushes enabled her to calm down. As he stroked her cheeks with his fingertips, she felt her will-power retreating and littleness taking its place. Somehow, some way, Victor’s charm had won her over again. And as he unbuckled her from the car seat, she sunk into it, relaxing her body as he lifted her up just enough to slide the wet diaper out from underneath her.
She looked back up at the stars, a distraction from the moment that helped her mind deal with the fact that she was now naked from the waist down and being diapered in a car seat in the middle of a park. Slow motion took full view of her senses, another distraction her mind made to continue to help process the events of the moment.
She felt the cool wipe on her bottom and then another one between her legs.
The stars twinkled in her irises and more shooting stars appeared, but these seemingly moved slowly enough for her to take notice of their tails. Each of the shooting stars had a sudden appearance, but clearly had come from somewhere. And they were heading at a steady pace towards their destinations.
She heard the rustling of her new diaper and smelled the sweetness of powder in the air.
If shooting stars knew what their destinations were, then she could do the same. Life didn’t allow anyone to stand still. And if someone weren’t moving in a direction forward, they were moving backwards without realizing it. It was a simple matter of wanting the things and then dreaming about them.
She felt him lifting her bottom up and then being lowered into the softness of a new diaper. He took powder between her legs and then folded the front of the diaper up and into place, fastening the tapes at her hips before kissing her on the forehead and climbing back into the driver’s seat.
Destiny was lost in her thoughts, staring at the stars above and contemplating what her heart truly wanted. Therein she would find her next dream. As he drove them out of the park, she kept her eyes to the stars, her dream-seeking above that and her legs curled up. As Victor pulled up to a red light, she turned her head to the side, seeing the car of guys next to them. The guys were laughing and having a good time. And they seemed to know what they wanted. They also seemed kind of self-absorbed – the driver revving the engine and anxiously awaiting the green light.
The instant the light turned green, the car next to them sped off in a hurry, headed to their destination. Victor calmly stepped on the accelerator and they were on their way, too. She looked at her Daddy’s eyes in the rear view mirror, realizing how he was anything but self-absorbed. It was at that moment she learned what her heart sought the most and thusly – what her dreams would be about that night.
The trip home was relaxing and gave her time to reflect just a little bit more on how so many dreams had been fulfilled already … because of him. He pulled into the driveway, parking and picking her up in his arms. She found her place on his hip as her legs wrapped around his waist, her arms wrapped around his neck, the side of her face rested on his shoulder and her heart wrapped itself around all of him.
Being carried towards the front door, she was glad she followed her Daddy bravely and trusted him to protect her. Otherwise, she never would’ve learned what her next dream would be. She couldn’t put it to words, but she could feel it and she knew that whatever she dreamed about that night – it would be as Sweet as Heaven.
