Mia’s story continues and life keeps moving forward.  From engagement to moving to plans for the future, suddenly she is overwhelmed by how fast everything has changed for her, but more importantly, by how permanent those changes could be.  With an over-active mind already, she struggles with balancing a growing need for littleness with the natural need for physical.

On this weekend, Mia desperately searches for a sign, any sign at all, that will reassure her the choices she has made were the right ones.  And regardless of where she is – whether staring up at the ceiling of the car as Eric changes her diaper in the backseat or screaming deafeningly at the stars in the sky as Eric climbs with her to the summit, Mia begins to see signs that luck is watching.

Mia gazed up at the stars, brilliantly displayed above Fetterman’s Park just outside the town limits, but more importantly – away from the street lamps that kept their dazzling sparkle hidden from her earlier.  Wrapped in her baby blanket and leaning back on Eric chest, she nursed from her baby bottle as he kept his arms and legs around her.  Her face beamed with the memories of her visits to him last summer when he brought her to this very park, climbed up on the hood of his car and cradled her just as he was doing now.  Stargazing was something she often did from her nursery window when she spent the night in her crib.  And being as the night sky was clearest on cold nights without cloud cover, Eric had positioned her crib right in front of the window.  But nothing could capture stargazing more fully than when at the park, with the Heavens spread out across the sky.

Traveling with Eric to a cabin in the woods of northern Pennsylvania,  Mia bounces with excitement for the birthday weekend about to begin.

On this weekend, Mia learns the difference between shyness and littleness while taking in the view at the top of the world.  And before he places her back in her crib at home on Sunday night, she will come face to face with the opportunity to finally see the lone wish she has made countless times in her life – on shooting stars, in wishing wells and in the center of a little heart which no longer wanted to be shy.

“The Breakfast Interrogation of Covered Piles”

Sunday Morning –

Hazelnut filled the air and Mia smiled, not yet ready to open her eyes, but awakening nevertheless.  Added to that smell of brewing coffee were the scents and sounds of breakfast – bacon, eggs, sausage and toast, she presumed.  She felt the warmth of her baby blanket, wrapped around her and swaddling her frame.  The closeness of the warmth coming from the fireplace and the softness beneath her told her that she was lying on the bear skin rug.  But there was a sweetness to the air nearby, a scent she knew well.  No, it wasn’t just baby powder.  It was something else and it was so familiar to her, but she couldn’t quite place her finger on what the scent was.

“The Birthday Suit”

The movie ended.  Eric turned the TV off with the remote as Mia lifted her head up from his chest, resting her chin on it and looking up at him with a twinkle in eyes.  He winked at her and she smiled brightly behind her pacifier, burying her face for a moment before sitting up to her knees.

“Tomorrow’s your birthday, Baby,” he said, sitting up as she tucked her hair behind her ears and nodded with a cheeriness that made her near-bouncing condition adorable.  “And you’re almost dressed appropriately.”

She blushed, lowering her chin and looking at her naked body, cloaked only with the diaper around her waist.

Mia took the first of many brave steps out of that little cabin in the woods.  The cool autumn air of that beautiful Saturday morning rushed across her legs, but it didn’t chill her at all.  Instead, it added to her already-determined state of mind.  She smiled sweetly but slyly behind her pacifier and as she stepped off the front porch, taking Eric’s hand, a twinkle filled her irises with brilliance only equaled by the sun.
